Jan Nieuwenhuijs was born in Amsterdam on the 8th of January, 1922, as the younger brother of Constant (1920-2005). He worked as a painter and maker of objects. In 1948 he co-founded the Experimental Group in Holland. He was also a member of CoBrA but withdrew in 1949 to pursue his artistic career, which he relatively had withdrawn. Still, his brief membership was of a decisive significance.
